A video doorbell lets you see and talk to whoever is at the door from your phone, wherever you are, and keeps a record of deliveries and visitors. The difference between one that works reliably and one that keeps going offline or running out of battery is usually the wiring. ASL Electric installs Ring and other video doorbells across Orange County, hard-wired with the right transformer so they stay powered and connected.
We install wired video doorbells on existing doorbell wiring, replace undersized or failing transformers, run new low-voltage wiring where there is none, and set up the doorbell with your app and chime. For customers who prefer a battery model, we mount it correctly and can still connect it to existing wiring to keep it charged. Every install includes setup and a quick walkthrough of how to use it.
Video doorbell services we provide
⚡Wired video doorbell installation
Installing Ring Video Doorbell Wired, Pro and other wired models on existing doorbell wiring, with the right mounting bracket and wedge or corner kit for your door.
⚡Transformer replacement and upgrades
Many older homes have a doorbell transformer too weak for a video doorbell, which causes rebooting, poor video and dead chimes. We locate the transformer and replace it with one rated for your doorbell.
⚡New doorbell wiring
Running new low-voltage wiring from the transformer to the door when there is no existing doorbell, or when the old wiring is damaged.
⚡Chime setup and replacement
Connecting your doorbell to the existing mechanical chime, installing the manufacturer's chime adapter where needed, or adding a plug-in chime.
⚡Battery doorbell mounting
Mounting battery models securely and at the right height and angle, and connecting to existing wiring for trickle charging when available.
⚡Whole-home security setup
Pairing the doorbell with floodlight cameras, outdoor lighting and smart locks so your entry is covered day and night.
Signs your doorbell needs an electrician
Call us if your video doorbell or chime:
- Keeps rebooting or going offline
- Shows a low power warning while wired
- Has a chime that buzzes, hums or stopped working
- Has video that freezes or drops at night
- Has no existing doorbell wiring to connect to
- Has a transformer you cannot find
- Is mounted at an angle that misses visitors
- Is on a door where battery life is poor
Why the transformer makes or breaks a video doorbell
Traditional doorbells only needed a tiny amount of power to ring a chime. Video doorbells run a camera, Wi-Fi radio and night vision all day, so an older transformer that was fine for a mechanical chime often cannot keep up. The symptoms look like a faulty doorbell: rebooting, lag, missed events. Fixing the power supply usually fixes the doorbell, and it is work that involves your home's line voltage, which is why it belongs with a licensed electrician.
How we install your video doorbell
Check the power
We locate and test the transformer and chime, and confirm they meet your doorbell's power requirements. If not, we replace the transformer.
Mount for the best view
We mount the doorbell at the recommended height and use angle kits where needed so the camera sees faces and packages, not just the porch.
Wire and connect
We connect the doorbell and chime, install any required adapter, and run new wiring if the existing wiring is missing or damaged.
Set up and test
We connect the doorbell to your Wi-Fi and app, set motion zones, test the chime and live view, and show you how to use it.
Doorbell options
Wired video doorbell
Best reliability and features when there is existing doorbell wiring and a suitable transformer.
Wired doorbell with new transformer
Fixes rebooting and low power on older homes with weak transformers.
Battery video doorbell
Best where wiring is not available and new wiring is not practical.
Doorbell plus floodlight camera
Covers both the entry and the driveway or side yard for complete coverage.
Wired or battery video doorbell?
Wired doorbells draw continuous power from your doorbell circuit, so you never charge a battery, and they usually support more features, faster response and more consistent video. Battery doorbells are simpler to place where there is no wiring, but they need regular recharging and can be slower to wake up.
If your home already has a doorbell, a wired model on a properly sized transformer is usually the best choice. If there is no wiring, we can run new low-voltage wire, or mount a battery model and keep it charged from existing wiring where possible.
When the transformer is hidden
Doorbell transformers can be in surprising places: next to the electrical panel, in the garage, in the attic, inside a closet wall or near the furnace. In remodeled homes the transformer is sometimes covered by cabinets or drywall, which makes upgrading it a challenge.
We trace the doorbell wiring to find it. If it is inaccessible, we can install a new transformer in an accessible location and connect it to the doorbell circuit, so you have a reliable wired doorbell without relying on batteries.
What affects the cost of video doorbell installation
The main factors are whether doorbell wiring and a working transformer already exist, whether the transformer needs replacing and how accessible it is, whether new wiring must be run to the door, the door frame and mounting surface, and whether you are adding a chime or additional cameras. We give you a free estimate and an upfront price.

Ring Doorbell Installation across Orange County
Video doorbells are a common add-on during service calls across Orange County. In Lake Forest, Irvine and Aliso Viejo homes built in the 1970s through 1990s, the original doorbell transformers were sized for mechanical chimes, so we often replace them to stop video doorbells from rebooting. In remodeled homes, the transformer is sometimes buried behind new cabinets; one Lake Forest customer needed a solution that did not rely on a battery-powered wireless doorbell, and we provided one.
Newer homes in Ladera Ranch and Rancho Mission Viejo usually have stronger wiring but may still need a transformer upgrade for higher-end doorbells, and HOA guidelines can affect mounting on some front entries. We handle the wiring, mounting and setup in one visit.
