Electrician in Laguna Woods, CA

Licensed electricians who know Laguna Woods Village. ASL Electric handles ceiling fans, lighting, outlets, smoke and CO alarms, dedicated circuits and EV chargers in Village manors, with Mutual Consent and City permits in mind.

Your local electrician in Laguna Woods

Laguna Woods is unlike any other city in Orange County. Laguna Woods Village, which opened in 1964 as Leisure World, makes up about 90 percent of the city, and Laguna Woods incorporated on March 24, 1999. About 17,600 people live here, most of them in Village manors.

ASL Electric has worked in Laguna Woods Village, and we understand that electrical work here follows its own process. Most alterations need Mutual Consent from the Village before the City will issue a permit, United Mutual requires a licensed contractor, and the ceilings in many manors contain radiant heating elements that change how fans and fixtures must be installed.

Common electrical issues in Laguna Woods

In Laguna Woods, residents most often ask us for ceiling fans, brighter and easier-to-use lighting, added outlets, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm replacements, dedicated circuits for appliances and air conditioning, and EV chargers. Every one of these is planned around the Village's approval process and the construction of the manors.

  • Ceiling fans in rooms with radiant ceiling heat
  • Dim rooms and hallways
  • Lighting that is easier to see and reach
  • Not enough outlets where they are needed
  • Smoke and CO alarms due for replacement
  • Circuits for appliances and air conditioning
  • EV chargers that need Village approval
  • Outlets and switches that stopped working

How Mutual Consent and permits work in the Village

In Laguna Woods Village, Mutual Consent is needed for hard-wired items, holes in ceilings or walls, new outlets, dedicated circuits, HVAC and EV chargers. For work such as outlets, new circuits and HVAC, the City of Laguna Woods also requires a permit, and the City will not issue it without an approved Mutual Consent. Mutual Consent typically takes about 7 to 10 business days.

United Mutual requires a licensed contractor; owner-builders are not allowed. We are a licensed electrical contractor (CSLB 1048262), and we provide the scope details needed for the application, then pull the City permit once consent is approved.

Radiant ceiling heat and ceiling fans

Many Village manors have radiant heating elements in the ceilings. A screw or anchor driven into one of those elements can disable the heat in that room. Ceiling fans must be supported from the structure above the ceiling rather than from the ceiling surface alone. We plan every ceiling fan and fixture installation with this in mind, so you get the fan or light you want without losing your heat.

Lighting and safety for everyday living

Good lighting makes a home safer and easier to live in. Brighter LED fixtures in kitchens and baths, lighted switches, night lights in hallways, and switches and outlets at comfortable heights all help. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be current and working. We can review your manor room by room and suggest practical improvements, then handle the Mutual Consent details for anything that needs approval.
